housing-constructionBuilding permit numbers in the City of North Bay are outpacing last year at this time.

That’s the word from Mayor Al McDonald who says construction value is $8.8-million so far.

That compares to $4.2-million at the same time last year.

One new industrial building makes up the bulk of the permits, at $7.4-million. Other smaller projects make up the rest.

McDonald says “It is still early but we are pleased to see that the numbers are higher than last year at this point,”

He goes on to say, “Council eliminated development charges for houses less than 1200 square feet and reduced charges by 30% for homes between 1200 to 1500 square feet. Housing starts typically occur in late April – early May. It is our hope this spurs development in this sector moving forward.”
