Jeremy HansenA Canadian Astronaut is coming to North Bay next month.

Students from across the north will get the chance to hear Lt Col Jeremy Hansen on April 17th.

A morning session for secondary and post-secondary students is being held at Canadore’s Aviation Campus while afternoon sessions are planned for select elementary and intermediate students.

The event is all about educating area youth about the prospects and possibilities in the fields of space and aerospace and encouraging an education and career in science, technology, engineering and math.

Mayor Al McDonald says, “Through initiatives like this and the Regional FIRST Robotics Competition (to be held at Nipissing University, March 26th – 28th, 2015) the City of North Bay continues to promote advanced manufacturing, robotics and aerospace opportunities to area students. We are training and educating our children today for the jobs of tomorrow”.

Hansen is a Canadian Space Agency Astronaut working with NASA’s Astronaut Training Branch and as Capcom at NASA’s Mission Control Center (the voice between the ground and the International Space Station) while he awaits a flight assignment.
