A North Bay Police officer is facing an assault causing bodily harm charge in relation to an incident dating back to March of 2014.

The charge follows an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit.

A release says the director of the SIU has reasonable grounds to believe the officer committed the criminal offense of assault causing bodily harm.

Police say after midnight at a North Bay establishment there was an altercation between several patrons.

The report says the officer intervened and a 40 year old was allegedly assaulted.

Constable Christian Elia has a July 5th court date.
