Volunteers at CFB North Bay spent much of Thursday getting everything ready for Friday night’s Relay For Life.

Major Shawn Guilbault says the base is a great place to put on this event for a number of reasons including lots of space, expertise for set up and tear down and in an area where there’s not too much traffic as well.

He says the great relationship between the community and the military is a key part of their involvement in events like this.

Major Guilbault was asked why they volunteer their time to make this event work.

He says military members have been touched by cancer so it means a lot to help put on this event for 16 years now.

Major Guilbault says the public parking will be at the Voyageur Airways Parking Lot but team members should drop everyone off near the site and there will be drop off locations as you arrive.

He says they started preparations for this event in January with 15 people coming together on issues like security. facilities, logistics and electrical.

Major Guilbault says 25-30 people will be involved in putting on the event from the base perspective.
