The city should be doing an economic study on the impact of having a casino here before going ahead.

So says Janet Zimbalatti who believes the negative impact outweighs any positive effects.

She’s made several presentations to city council and this week called on council to do its homework.

She says the facts are clear money spent at a casino will not stay in the community and small businesses will be impacted negatively.

Zimbalatti says 34 Million Dollars would be spent during the first year a casino would operate in North Bay and that’s 34 Million that wouldn’t be spent at area businesses.

She says look to Thunder Bay where they have had a casino for 15 years and 77 per cent of small businesses there believe there is a negative impact on business.

She says it’s just not her fight and it’s important for the community to know the answers.

Zimbalatti says the information contained in an economic study would be useful to other communities should they consider a casino down the road.
