Anthony Rota

The federal Liberals say more people are benefiting thanks to the changes they’ve made to the Employment Insurance system.

MP Anthony Rota says they’ve extended benefits to people living in communities that have experienced the most severe increases in unemployment in the country.

He says they have taken that into account.

He says in areas where unemployment is higher the number of hours to collect EI in lower.

He says that changes from month to month and reflects the situation on the ground as people look to get back in the job market.

Rota says they have also ended the 910 hour eligibility penalty for workers entering or re entering the workforce.

This includes parents returning to the workforce, younger employees, people who have left the workforce due to illness and new Canadians.
