North Bay played a major role in the Canadian Fur Trade at one time.

That is a highlighted in a new exhibit at the Discovery North Bay Museum.

Museum Director/Curator Naomi Rupke says the exhibit opened last week.

She says the exhibit will cover the years from 1750-1821 where the fur trade was key here.

Rupke says the Lavase corridor from Trout Lake to Lake Nipissing was a major highway for Voyageurs for 70 years.

She says they’ve always wanted to do this exhibit but haven’t had the artifacts.

Rupke says they do now thanks to help from the Sturgeon Falls Museum and a local collector.

She says the exhibit will be open until the New Year.

There will be a reception on the exhibit tomorrow at 3.
