The fifth annual United Way fundraising campaign is underway locally.

Over 500-thousand dollars has been raised in the first four years and Community Coordinator Katina Matheson says this year’s goal is 170-thousand dollars.

She says on top of fundraising they’re also looking to grow and build partnerships to identify gaps and needs in the community.

Along with youth engagement, she says they provide a lot of governance and management support and assistance to the non-profit sector beyond just money.

Also launched is the LCBO’s “Give at the till” campaign with funds being raised through October 9th.

All funds raised at local stores are supporting programs and individuals in the Nipissing area.

Matheson says they’ve had huge growth over the first four years, but have faced challenges in the past, with some corporate champions being impacted by the economy.
