Police leaders and school board officials from throughout Northeastern Ontario have renewed their Police School Protocol.

North Bay Police Chief Shawn Devine says this is the 4th revision of the document that covers high risk situations.

He says the protocol is all about meeting a standard for schools throughout Northeastern Ontario whether it be events of high risk like school lockdowns or other situations.

He says the protocol is a common document that both sides can refer to and follow.

It covers a wide range of issues including investigations, police presence in schools, crime and violence prevention, emergency planning and early intervention.

Devine says the agreement covers situations in Sault Ste Marie, Sudbury, Timmins and North Bay too.

Devine says the document has been rewritten but the fundamentals of it haven’t changed.

The protocol sets a provincial standard as developed by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
