The Minister Responsible for Fednor says the funding program for Northern Ontario is here to stay.

Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains was responding to concerns raised recently by the NDP’s FedNor critic Charlie Angus over its status and the impacts of Bill C-24, which removes individual ministerial responsibility for Canada’s five regional economic agencies including FedNor.

Bains says they do hope one day the funding returns to what it was.

He says it will take time to reverse a lot of the “bad decisions” made by the previous government.

The NDP claims the program’s budget remains at a low of $31-million down from a high of $76-million a decade ago.
