Donald Trump has claimed his place as America’s 45th president after a stunning election win over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton early today that has surprised much of the world.

Hillary Clinton conceded the race in a post-midnight phone call to Donald Trump after it became clear he’d won enough states to capture the presidency.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is giving a thumbs-up to U-S President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.
In a brief statement, the Kremlin says Putin has sent Trump a congratulatory telegram, and expressed “his hope to work together for removing Russian-American relations from their crisis state.”
Putin also says he has confidence that Moscow and Washington can build a constructive dialogue.
Trump has drawn criticism for repeatedly praising Putin’s leadership and advocating a closer working relationship, despite Russia’s recent military incursions in Ukraine and Syria. (4)
