The North Bay Police Services Board is spending funds on outfitting officers.

The money is for new soft body armour and new vests.

Chief Shawn Devine says they get new soft body armour every five years or so and this is the year.

He says the new vests will help those officers with smaller waist sizes because they’ll be able to put some of the equipment in the vest area and ease pressure on the hips.

He says officers carry between 55-60 pounds of equipment and spreading that extra weight around especially for people with smaller waists can ease pressure on the hips.

He says the cost of the new vests is about $20,000.
