Details on a new service at a North Bay Pharmacy were unveiled at Northern Shores Pharmacy on Maplewood Avenue today.

ProZed Pharmacy Solutions provides a genetic testing service,

Owner Richard Procunier says the idea is to tailor your medication to the results from a genetic test.

He says the information will enable them to improve someone meds without the side effects.

He uses codeine as an example and that it may not be the best need for everyone due to side effects.

Procunier says the test is conducted at the pharmacy and the result is sent away to ONEOME a US testing company in Minneapolis.

Morgan Donaldson is with ONEOME in Minneapolis.

She says the service has only been available since last summer.

She says this is the first retail pharmacy that is offering the service.

Procunier says the swab they give you will cost $349 now but they’re working on a research study for 200 patients and those patients won’t have to pay.
