Swath of storm damage in West Ferris

What’s being described as a possible micro-burst has left a swath of fallen and uprooted trees in West Ferris.

The damage and debris stretches from Manitou and Mulligan Streets (pictured above), Charlton Crescent and Regent Court, to the Kate Pace Way off Marshall Avenue in West Ferris.

Some residents say they took cover in their basements as the storm blew through around 4:15 pm Tuesday, noting it only lasted about 10 to 15 seconds.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Justice Clancy lives on Charlton Crescent.

She says she heard loud thunder and the power went out, then she saw everyone outside and wondered what happened.

“(There were) trees down, my entry-way was blocked, I had to crawl through jungle, pretty much.  And there was a tree on my car,” she says.

Luckily Clancy says the only damage to her vehicle is the license plate in the front was bent.

She says the fire department was on the street assessing the situation, then helped get the tree off with a chainsaw.

A shed in the backyard was destroyed.

Meantime, North Bay Fire and Emergency Services received a few calls after the storm.

Platoon Chief Robb Roy says crews at Station Three on Marshall Avenue were actually outside at the time doing their truck check.

“They had the cab of the truck and the ladder up, and someone happened to notice the micro-burst, I’m assuming it was, coming in pretty quick.  They had to get the truck back inside pretty fast and then they received a couple calls from there,” he says.

Fire crews responded to some of the fallen trees, hydro lines that were down and helped out residents with clearing some of the trees.

They were also on the Kate Pace Way clearing away a few fallen trees and debris.
