Wednesday was national convenience store day at Wingate Variety in the Northgate Shopping Centre.

The event put on by the Canadian Convenient Stores Association is a fundraiser for the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.

Dave Bryans is Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Convenience Store Association.

He says they raised $64,000 last year

The event for this year took place Wednesday at 175 convenience stores.

On hand was North Bay’s Amberly Auger, who was a recipient of a Disney Cruise through the foundation.

Her mother Lori says she was able to be a kid and just have fun, after having to be strong for medical appointments.

10 year old Amberly was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was six and spent about three years in and out of hospitals, completing treatment.

Officials say National Convenience Store day is a big deal in Atlantic Canada, and their trying to getting it going here in Ontario too.
