Heritage Gardeners planting the seeds of diversity and inclusion

Community partnership projects promoting inclusivity and community are being celebrated tomorrow night (Wednesday).

The Canada Place 150 Art and Design Exhibition is being put on by the North Bay Heritage Gardeners at the WKP Kennedy Gallery.

In collaboration with the North Bay Indian Friendship Centre, “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work” involves works by Indigenous artists will be on display, coinciding with the one year anniversary of the public launch of Reconciliation North Bay.

The Gardeners will also be unveiling a large mural made of circles of canvas painted with perspectives on diversity and inclusion.

“This Canvas is an artistic celebration of our heritage, the people of North Bay and our community spirit of inclusiveness,” said Hariett Madigan, Chair of the Heritage Gardeners which initiated the Canvas as part of its Canada Place 150 Project.

The mural project is titled “Canada Place 150: Planting the Seeds of Diversity and Inclusion”. 

A new Canada Place 150 gathering garden (pictured below) is also in development as a gateway to North Bay’s waterfront.

This lakeside meeting place will be a location for the community to reflect on ‘planting the seeds of diversity and inclusion’ in our region, as well as celebrating Canada’s 150^th anniversary of Confederation, and the North Bay Heritage Gardener’s 20^th Anniversary.
