Two agencies, boards and commissions have told to go back to work by the budget committee.

The committee sent out a letter asking abc’s’s to limit their budget increases to two percent or lower for 2018.

Councillor Derek Shogren says one of those was the North Bay Police Services Board.

“Probably the one that made everybody’s jaw drop was the police came in with a preliminary ask of more than 8 per cent almost 1.1 million dollars. Needless to say that was sent back.”
He says the other concern was the Capitol Centre which is asking for a 10 per cent increase in 2018.

“It’s small dollars $27,000. But this is coming off a 7 per cent increase we gave them last year. That’s going to create a few challenges for us so we sent that back.”
Meantime, the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board is asking for a 2 per cent increase.

Shogren says the province is uploading a lot of programs now and the municipality isn’t seeing the savings so they’ve asked the d-saab not to bring in a two per cent increase.
