A Grade 6 student at St. Alexander School has been named a winner of the James Bartleman award.

Ava Morin will be travelling to Toronto to receive her award for creative writing at Queens Park.

The award recognizes students under 18 for excellence in Indigenous Youth Creative Writing.

Morin is one of 6 recipients.

Her teacher Tory Fisher says Ava is a very bright student and her writing is very powerful.

Ava says she wrote about having courage and finding faith in yourself. Each of the award winners will receive $2,500.
