A vice president at Canadore College has received a national award.

Shawn Chorney, the vice president of Enrolment Management, Indigenous and Student Services received the leadership excellence award Monday at the Colleges and Institutes Canada conference in Victoria, B.C.

He says he’s humbled.

‘I didn’t know I was nominated until a couple of weeks ago. It feels very good but humbling at the same time. We’ve done some really wonderful work with partners in our community around poverty reduction and I’m very passionate about Indigenous Education,” he says.

Canadore College president George Burton says Chorney is a deserving winner.

“Anyone that has met Shawn knows that he doesn’t like to sit still, he’s open to new ideas and is grounded in doing the right thing for the right reasons, above all else, I know Shawn to be a transformational leader in achieving positive results through his unique brand of relationship building, collaboration and entrepreneurship.” he says.
