The 3rd annual Children’s Festival is on stage at the Capitol Centre this weekend.

Tonight (Friday) there’s a Sharon and Bram sing along concert.

There’s a full day of activities tomorrow with bouncy castles, costumed characters, puppet theatre, storytelling, games and music, a 30-drum interactive workshop, a reptile adventure camp and more.

Sunday features a free family film, ‘Early Man’ with donations to the North Bay Food Bank being accepted.

Hundreds of motorcycles are expected for the 10th annual Nipissing Ride For Dad tomorrow (Saturday) in support of prostate cancer research and awareness.

Co-chair John Strang says the goal this year is $30,000 to $40,000.

Since 2008, he says the local ride has raised over $321,000.

Overall, Strang says their message is simple.

“It’s get it checked and there’s no shame in having a prostate exam. It doesn’t have to be as invasive as that, a simple PSA blood test can save a life,” he says.

A pre-registration event goes from 3-7 pm today (Friday) at the Ramada Pinewood Park Resort.

Ride day registration starts at 8 am tomorrow with kickstands up at 10:30 am.

 

The North Bay and District Humane Society is hosting a microchip day tomorrow for cats and dogs.

Officials say microchips are the most efficient way to track pets.

Microchips are $25 each or $40 with a city licence.

The event tomorrow runs from 10 am to 2 pm with a nail clipping service, pet photo booth, adoptions information and a barbecue too.

 

A local musician is embarking on an East Coast tour, starting with a hometown show tonight (Friday).

Rose-Erin Stokes is performing at The Loft, upstairs at Churchill’s, at 7:30 pm.

Tickets are $15 at the door.

Stokes is in Ottawa next Tuesday then has a series of shows in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick through the end of the month.
