The Ontario government says it will be spending $90 million to fund hundreds of hospital beds across the province including at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says the local share is more than $2 million. He says the money will be used for 26 beds.

“A 14 bed transitional care unit at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. This consists of 10 beds for at risk older adults and 4 short term stay beds in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society of North Bay,” he says.

Fedeli says the other 12 will be for a specialized day program with the Alzheimer’s Society of North Bay.

Premier Doug Ford says the investment will help the hospital system deal with overcrowding issues that have resulted in patients sometimes being treated in hallways and other unsuitable spaces.
He says the funds will support 1,100 hospital beds in total _ including more than 640 new beds.

Fedeli says the money will help ease pressures following the closure of the Lady Isabelle long term care facility in Trout Creek.
