Today’s Tell Me Something Good! Cheryl was kind enough to share her beautiful story that happened right here in North Bay!

Hi Krista:

My name is Cheryl and my mother’s name is Pauline and she is 88 years old and in AMAZING HEALTH. Mom lives in a seniors complex and through her backyard runs Chippewa Creek. When all of the trees are bare come winter time she can see an apartment building directly across the creek from her window. Four years ago she started getting a Christmas card from a stranger across the creek thanking her beautiful display of Christmas lights and how much they enjoyed them. For 2 years she got the card dropped in her mailbox when she was not at home. They must watch to see her leave her unit and then dash over and put the card in her mailbox. The 3rd year which was last year she did not receive one and was a little disappointed so we thought this person must have moved. But then again this year only a couple of days before Christmas she stepped out to go to the store and when she returned there was a Christmas card in he mailbox once again with a beautiful home made ornament taped to the envelope! She immediately opened the card and read the lovely message inside and attached this ornament to her tree!

This years message inside the card read…Merry Christmas to our across the creek neighbours! Wishing good things for you and your loved ones. Thanks for the comfort and joy your your festive lights bring!! From a Merry Stranger!! It just makes Mom’s day every time she gets that card and a message. Just wanted to share this story of a gesture as simple as a card and the enjoyment Mom gets from it. Maybe others out there listening will be inspired perhaps next year to become ” a merry stranger” and make someone’s day!

This year we were pretty certain we had figured out who this Merry Stranger was so we made a huge sign that read…Happy New Year to our Merry stranger across the creek! When my brother and I climbed down the creek bank to put the sign in the snow we were sure the 2 units we thought were this person were not home. As we placed our sign deep in the snow the Merry Stranger finally opened her door and wished us a Happy New Year as well!!

I hope you share our special story of our across the creek stranger!!

Happy new Year!

Cheryl and Pauline!!
