The 2020 budget season continues, but one city councillor has an eye on 2021 with a proposed pilot project involving North Bay Transit.

With the aim of increasing ridership, Mike Anthony tells BayToday one idea is to offer free service to children under 12.

“The idea being that if you start young, you may continue with it and continue to use it, and see the value in it and the efficiency in it,” he says.

Another proposal involving seniors.

“For those that could use it with independence, and maybe have just stopped using it, a day a week that would be free for seniors, I think, would be something to look at in a future budget, as a pilot project,” he says.

Anthony is looking to 2021 because a ‘Transit on Demand’ pilot project, first mentioned by Deputy Mayor Tanya Vrebosch, is expected to start up in 2020.
