The CIBC Run for the Cure is taking place virtually on Sunday, October 4th this year.

Officials say people are encouraged to register online and raise pledges — then take part in their own walk/run within their own social circle on the 4th.
City police have created a team for the 2020 virtual run and officers will be painting their fingernails pink leading up to the event in support of breast cancer research.

Chief Scott Tod on the message he’s trying to send.

“One is the awareness of cancer in our society, specifically breast cancer. Also, we can do more by raising funds. A cure is possible and if we work at it we can save many loved in our community who have been lost due to cancer,” Tod says.

He has issued a challenge to all local police, fire, ambulance and emergency services. Both the North Bay Fire Department and the OPP have taken Tod up on the challenge.

The inspiration came from KISS 100.5 afternoon host Cody Belanger who has painted his fingernails pink.

He says it’s a great conversation starter.

“People can’t help but ask “why are your fingernails painted pink” ? The CIBC Run For the Cure will be in the news because it is in the community but the person to person conversations will stick with a lot of people,” Belanger says.

Cash donations can still be made at local CIBC branches.
A CIBC Run for the Cure app is also available with fundraising tips and tools including personal Avatars, fundraising rewards and social media connections.
The event itself will have an online component including the very best parts of Run Day, words from the Canadian Cancer Society, CIBC, Hope participants and a great warm up.
Officials say as breast cancer continues to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women, touching the lives of so many families every day, the CIBC Run for the Cure gives families, friends and supporters the opportunity to join together to honour and celebrate their loved ones, and make a real difference.
It’s because of the funds Canadians raise through the CIBC Run for the Cure that we know more than ever before about how to prevent, diagnose, treat and live with and beyond breast cancer.
