The CIBC Run for The Cure is back for a 16th year in North Bay on Sunday.

It’s a virtual event this year with online celebrations kicking things off at 11:30 am on Facebook and YouTube, with Jully Black, the Barenaked Ladies, Jess Moskaluke, Carolyn Dawn Johnson and others.

Volunteer Director of Logistics Melanie Gainforth says everyone will doing their own 5k or 1k walk or run.

The event is raising funds to support breast cancer research and support services.

“We are over $24,000 online here in North Bay and our goal was $20,000 so we’ve done very well and we have the community to thank for that,” she says.

Gainforth also says they’ll have a pink chair and backdrop set up at the bandshell from 11-1 pm on Sunday for people to stop by.

“Take a picture with their teammates to celebrate the day, leave us a message of hope and of why they’re participating in the CIBC Run For The Cure, of course at a safe distance, and then they can carry on with their route,” she says.

Gainforth also says the fundraising awards deadline is tonight (Oct 2nd) at midnight and the CIBC Run for the Cure Spotify playlist is now available.

There’s also the pink nails challenge with local emergency services. They’re collecting online donations so they won’t have to have their nails painted pink.
