The music video, which was directed by Tanu Muino, did not include Elton or Britney but it did feature a number of dances and a colourful backdrop of Mexico City.

“This was an emotional one for me as I grew up with Britney. After seeing ‘Slave For You,’ I decided that I wanted to become a video director. Elton John is an icon that I and the world grew up listening to.  Going into this video, I knew there would be a lot of emotional expectations the audience and fans would have. With this responsibility, I had to do something different and unexpected. The visuals had to be different. The dance had to be forward-thinking to raise eyebrows and make Elton and Britney proud. To capture this magic, we shot around all my favorite architectural locations in Mexico City and brought on choreographer Jacob Jonas who does the best contemporary choreography today. Getting the best dancers, crew and access to some of the most private locations in the world was simple as everyone wanted to work with Elton John and be part of his legacy,” Tanu said in a press statement.

Prior to the release of the music video, Elton shared a snippet to his Instagram and in the caption writes, “Check out the stunning dance video for ‘Hold Me Closer’, shot in Mexico City by the award-winning director @tanumuino beautifully capturing an immeasurable feeling of intimacy so missing from the world through the turmoil and chaos of recent times.”

In other Britney-related news:  Did you know there’s a mashup of Elvis Presley’s ‘Viva Las Vegas’ with Britney’s 2004 hit ‘Toxic’ and it can be heard in the Elvis biopic? In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Elvis director Baz Luhrmann revealed that ‘he’s working to officially release this fan-favourite mashup,’ “There’s a lot of love, a lot of intense love for the Britney/Elvis track in the movie, and it’s my commitment to try [to release the song].”

Baz confirmed the official version of the song is complete, and reveals he’s “just trying to unravel it once all parties involved approve of the track’s release.”  “It’s my passion and commitment to try to get all parties involved in getting it completed and out there for the fans,” he said, “as I know Britney herself and Elvis are, in so many ways, connected in their own different journeys,” he shares.

“Just like Britney, who creates the quintessential ’90s pop music, you’re richer than God and you’re in the Hollywood bubble.  That’s what happens to Elvis. He’s gone from being this rebel, this punk, deeply steeped with his Black music friends doing radical music, to suddenly being isolated in Hollywood doing pop,” Baz continues.
