The jobless rate was up last month in the North Bay area while employment was down, compared to August 2017.

Stats Canada says unemployment was 8.5 per cent in August.

That is up from 6.2 per cent a year ago.

But, the standard error was 2.7, so the data is not deemed statistically significant.

Employment was at 56.3 last month, down 1.2 per cent from August last year.

The figures include North Bay, Callander, East Ferris and Bonfield.
