North Bay Police Chief Shawn Devine says it looks like security is going to be upated in January of next year at the North Bay courthouse.

Devine says the actual project is in the hands in the Ministry of the Attorney General.

“You’ll be looking at going through a magnetometer and a search for weapons or anything like that. I really applaud the approach,” he says.

Devine says as far as he knows there wasn’t a major incident to spark this.

He says North Bay was selected and the idea of having magnetometers as a 1 point entry into a courthouse is becoming a more popular thing especially in Southern Ontario.

Devine says city police would be responsible for monitoring the entrance to the courthouse.
