Canada Summer Jobs program now accepting applications

Summer may be a long way off, but applications are being accepted from employers for the Canada Summer Jobs program.

MP Anthony Rota says this year’s program is more inclusive.

“We’ve expanded it, it’s not just for young students, it goes up to 30 now and gives people that chance to get experience and get ahead,” he says. “Last year we had just under 800 students who were employed by small businesses and organizations.”

The program now offers summer job opportunities to all youth, not just students, between the ages of 15 and 30.

“We’ll continue to work with local business to make sure the students get the service, and the businesses get the work they need,” Rota says.

Ottawa says the program creates quality summer job opportunities and valuable work experience, helping youth to build their resumes, while earning a fair wage.

They also help organizations fill labour gaps especially during the busy summer months.

Not-for-profit employers can receive 100 percent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage.

Public-sector employers and private sector employers with 50 or fewer full-time employees across Canada can receive 50 percent of the provincial or territorial minimum hourly wage.

The application deadline is January 25th.
