Three North Bay Police officers have received promotions.

In a ceremony on Friday, Scott McFarlane (first below) was promoted to Staff Sergeant and Fernando Cirullo ( 2nd below) and Jason Long ( above) are now Sergeants.

McFarlane says this is a big day but it’s also an important day for the families because of the sacrifices they’ve made.

“When there are special occasions the citizens still need protection. When events like Easter, Christmas and birthdays take place someone has to be on duty 24/7 and that means the families have to sacrifice the most,” he says.

Long says his experience in criminal investigations will help him in his new job as he’ll be able to pass on what he’s learned to other officers. There will be 12-14 members on the platoon he’ll be on.

Cirullo says he doesn’t expect his job to change that much but he will be responsible for a platoon of officers.

He says he will encourage them to speak up on mental health concerns.

“Mental health is a big issue and I want to ensure our membership is taken care of and looked after to the best of my ability. It is a difficult position and I want to be there for our people and the community of course,” he says.

Chief Scott Tod says it’s important to let the community know who is being promoted and the impact they have on the service.
