An update on the proposed North Bay Vehicles for Hire & Private Transportation Company Vehicles By-Law.

You can check out the proposed by-law which will replace the taxi by-law on the North Bay Police web site.

You have until September 15th to comment.

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald, a Police Services Board member, says he’ll be interested in what both taxi companies and the ride share industry have to say.

“I believe the whole intent of the proposed bylaw is trying to level the playing field. I’m sure there’s going to be comments from the industry. I don’t want to prejudge that but our goal is to level the playing field and ensure our citizens are safe,” he says.

McDonald says once that information is in there will be a public meeting and the final decision will be made by the Police Services Board.

He says from the outside it appears those in the Rideshare industry are being asked to pay more around $5,000 for a license than taxi companies but that may not be the case.

“225 a vehicle. If they have 50 vehicles there’s a higher cost than Rideshare. But if they less vehicles it’s cheaper,” McDonald says.

No word on when the public meeting will be or a decision by the Police Services Board will be made.
