Locked out Children’s Aid Society Workers received some moral support today in a rally at the Pete Polangio Arena.

The idea behind their “Playing For A Fair Deal” event was to have the national and provincial presidents of CUPE skate alongside locked out workers.

National president Mark Hancock says the use of replacement workers by the employer is a key issue for the union.

He says in provinces like BC there’s a law against that

President of local CUPE 2049 Debbie Hill says they just wanted to have a fun event for their employees who have been locked out since December 23rd.

She says it’s encouraging that the employer as indicated in a news release this week wants to get back to the bargaining table but they’ve yet to hear directly on that and only through the media did they learn of that indication.
