North Bay Fire and Emergency Services had the bulk of a fire out in a building in the 100 block of Main Street East, stretching to Oak Street East, by 1 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.

Crews then cut holes throughout the building to get ahead of the fire and ensure it was completely snuffed out.

The call came in at noon, and Deputy Chief Greg Saunders says it was a three station response.

There was no smoke or flames visible on the scene, but there was the faint smell of smoke in the air.

Saunders says there’s a real concern about fire extension with older buildings like this.

There were no injuries and the fire did not spread to any adjacent buildings.

Saunders reiterates crews did a great job getting ahead of the fire.

One lane of Oak Street East was blocked off while Main Street East was blocked from the Wyld to Ferguson.
