It’s an important weekend for the North Bay Pride Committee.

They’ve organized 3 major community events over the next couple of days.

The focus will be a Pride March Saturday at 11 am from city hall to the waterfront.

One of the main organizers is Jason Maclennan.

He says this is a march and not a parade.

He says a parade is a celebration and while a march is demand for change.

Maclennan says some in the city at times struggle to support LGBTQ2+ community members.

He says we need to learn more and that everyone deserves equal rights and equal treatment in the community.

He says the theme is education, equality and unity.

Maclennan points out some communities like Sudbury have been holding events like this for 2 decades and yet acceptance has been slow in coming in North Bay for LGBYQ2+ members.

The pride flag will be raised at city hall Friday afternoon at 4 and there will be a Unity For Pride Picnic at the waterfront starting Saturday at noon.
