An endowment fund at the North Bay Regional Health Centre is supporting 6 mental health programs. The Maria MacMillan endowment fund for mental health was created by her family. Maria died in 2006 after a courageous battle with an eating disorder. The grants total $3,500.

 

The 2017 Recipients of the Maria MacMillan Endowment Grants are:

WRAP Program – Peer Support Services: A $600 grant will purchase materials for this supportive training program focussed on managing mental illness. It is a recovery model based on – Hope/ Self Advocacy / Education / Self-Responsibility.
Dementia Friendly Environment – B1: A $500 grant will support the implementation of diversional door covers to mitigate exit-seeking behaviour by patients with dementia.
Distress Tolerance Box Project – Mental Health Clinic: A $500 grant will support the Graduation Group Therapy Program Distress Tolerance Box Project. Clients utilize items to manage their emotions and keep this box as part of their wellness plan.
Reducing Barriers Through Transportation – Mental Health Clinic: A $540 grant will purchase bus passes for clients to attend therapy, reducing the barrier of transportation to accessing mental health services.
Classroom Upgrades – Child & Adolescent Mental Health Unit: A $700 grant will support the development of a classroom and educational materials promoting the best learning and concurrent therapeutic progress.

Mindfulness Room – Acute Inpatient Psychiatry: A $600 grant will purchase furnishings for the Mindfulness Room. It is a place for implementing safe coping skills, relaxation and reflection.
