Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota announced $150,000 in funding for Nipissing University to support three scientific research projects.

The lions share $115,000 goes to Dr. Aaron Kociolek (pictured with student participant for research)  who is doing work on biomechanics in the hand.

Rota says some great research is being done at the university and learning from science fits in with the governments goals of learning important information from research.

“Research that we can use not only today but down the road. Stuff that will develop into a product in the short term but the long term as well.”

Dr. Kociolek says the funds will benefit students in their research in a number of areas.

“The students will look at the link between occupational risk factors. So things like working repeatedly, working forcefully with your hands and how they effect how your hands function and how injuries happen over time.”
Other recipients include $20,000 for Steven Arnocky who is a psychology professor and student Daryl Tjin who received $18,000.
