Canadore College teachers who have been on strike for close to 2 weeks held an information picket outside MP Anthony’s Rota’s office in North Bay on Friday.

John Patterson speaks for the teachers.

He says although this is a provincial dispute there are federal dollars being spent at Canadore.

And students are being impacted by this work stoppage.

He says apprentices aren’t at school learning about their trade but other students are being impacted too.

“Our Aviation programs are also regulated by Transport Canada. These are programs with specific numbers of hours required and these students are in jeopardy.”

Darren Rotondo is a professor in the Aviation program.

He says a number of their programs are Transport Canada accredited.

He says to graduate students need credit for time served while going to school so they can get a federal license.

Rotondo says if its a long dispute it could be problematic for the students to get the needed hours.

Teachers also say some of the apprentices in the trades programs at Canadore has been impacted by not being able to go to class.

Patterson says not having enough full time instructors is the major issue.
