Negotiations have broken off between the colleges and the teachers in the 2 week old strike.

The colleges have asked the Ontario Labour Relations Board to intervene and table their latest offer to the faculty.

Canadore College president George Burton says they’ve addressed all the OPSEU concerns in their latest offer.

“Because we have presented our position on everything they’ve put on the table with our last offer and now is the time for the membership to decide.”
He says the colleges have also asked the union to suspend the strike while a vote is being organized so students can get back to the classroom.

OPSEU says it has no plans to suspend the disruption.
The strike has left 500-thousand full-time and part time students out of class.
OPSEU says the colleges have walked away from the talks when only one outstanding issue-a request on academic freedom-remained unsettled.

OPSEU says they suggest the colleges get back to negotiating an agreement.
