Between last weekend’s massive snowfall, the Santa Claus Parade and now the Downtown Christmas Walk, it’s a week of kick-offs to the holiday season.

The 29th annual Old Fashioned Christmas Walk gets started at 6 pm tonight (Friday) with the lighting of the tree in the parkette at Main and Fraser.

DIA Executive Director Jeff Serran says they expect a big crowd.

“We’ve been averaging about 10,000 per year,” he says. “One year we had plus 10 degrees for the Christmas Walk and we had about 14,000 people within that three hours.”

Serran says there’s plenty of family fun involved with the walk.

“There’s sky-high bucket rides courtesy of North Bay Hydro, Cheapskates with the Rail Jam, we have music by various schools, various churches, we have jazz bands, we have brass bands,” he says.

There’s also singing groups and the North Bay Symphony, along with horse and wagon rides, Santa and Mrs Claus and more.

Serran says all the businesses and services in Downtown North Bay look forward to this event each year.
