North Bay’s bid is in to Curling Canada host the 2018 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship at Memorial Gardens.

The bid committee co chair Rick Miller says they submitted their bid last week and will find out at the end of next month if they are successful.

He says he feels good about their chances as residents, businesses and curlers are all behind the local effort.

This will be the third major curling event North Bay will host as the North Bay Granite Curling Club has already been the site of the Northern Ontario Men’s and the Canadian Mixed.

He says the Granite will be the site of The Patch where fans can meet competitors and enjoy food and entertainment during the nine day event.

For the city Councillor Mark King says the benefits including a 6-8 Million dollar economic impact from having officials, athletes, media and spectators here and North Bay will be showcased on television coast to coast and around the world.
