The province’s Special Investigations Unit has wrapped up it’s investigation into the death of a 49-year old man arrested in mid-December 2016, east of North Bay.
The SIU says there was no connection between the actions of an OPP officer and the man’s death.
They say police stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 in the Bonfield area after receiving complaints of a suspected impaired driver.
The man went into medical distress after being placed in the back of a cruiser, police met up with paramedics and the man lost vital signs.
He was pronounced deceased at hospital.
A post mortem found the man had scar tissue on the heart indicating previous mild coronary attacks.
The pathologist also found that the main artery to the heart was 90% occluded.
The final report listed no injuries and the cause of death as “Acute Fentanyl and Cocaine Intoxification in a man with Chronic Ischemic Heart Disease”.
