water

A 6 month pilot project on corrosion control has some positive results for the city.

Karin Pratte is the senior facilities and environment engineer for the city.

She says the goal of the pilot was to reduce the corrosive nature of our drinking water which means lower the number of coloured water complaints, reduce the iron levels in the drinking water and increase the life expectancy of our drinking water infrastructure.

Pratte says the results show a reduction in iron levels and water color complaints by half but that’s not all.

A chlorine byproduct is down by 35 per cent and the life expectancy of the water infrastructure has increased.

Pratte says the results are all very good but they’ll keep testing and collect samples but the additive they’re using seems to be the the perfect one for the city.
