A big upgrade this week for the city’s Marshall Lift Station.

Senior Facilities and Environment Engineer Karin Pratte says the project which is expected to take all week to do will replace a pump at the station for the first time in 3 decades.

She says the work will take place 24 hours a day and they applied and received a noise exemption.

She says the work will be done inside but there are outdoor pumps so people may hear them work for 3-4 nights this week starting tonight.

Pratte says the new pump will be much more reliable than the current one.

As well, she points out this is a new type called a dry well submersible meaning if there’s flooding in the dry well through a pipe break the pump would continue to run and homes wouldn’t be flooded.

She says the Marshall LIft Station is the largest sewage lift station in the city.

It’s expected the work for the 250 Thousand Dollar job will wrap up by the end of the week.
Meantime, Tower Drive from Greenhill Avenue to Little Down Lane will be closed for the next 2 weeks starting today for subdivision work.

Detour route signage will be posted in the area.

Local traffic will be allowed through.

The 6 Hornell/CFB bus route will be impacted and several stops won’t be serviced.

There will be temporary bus stops at Greenhill and Tower Drive and Carmichael Drive and Little Down Lane.
