The cost to move of the Dionne Quints home to its new location is $30,000 higher than originally estimated.

Council passed a recommendation from staff on Tuesday.

During the move, it was deemed a vapour extraction system was required under the homes foundation.

“There was additional work required to raise the height of the home from the original footings up approximately 4 feet,” says Community Services Committee Chair Mark King. “To allow for furnace installation in the lower, it’s almost like a crawl space.”

He says that work was not included in the previous approval.

As for how the city is paying for the higher amount, King says it’s coming from the land sale from the previous location of the home.

“The dollars required for the Dionne move will come directly out of that surplus property account,” he says.

He says that land was sold for $1.6-million.
