Earlier we told you about several events taking place to mark April being Autism Awareness Month , one being the Light It Up Blue event Monday night at City Hall.
Organizer Mark Lyons tells BayToday it has been growing over the past three years and the event helps bring people together to support each other.
“Always surprising, somebody say to you ‘my grandson has Autism’ or ‘my nephew has been diagnosed with Autism’ the support for that is paramount for our families,” he says.
Lyons says it feels great to see City Hall lit up in blue.
It’s an awesome feeling, it really is, it’s just something special for our special needs kids, where we have each others back,” he says.
Autism Awareness Month is all about bringing to light the struggles and triumphs of people on the Autism Spectrum.
On top of a flag raising held on Tuesday there’s a celebration at One Kids Place from 5 pm to 7 pm.
A couple events are also taking place later this month.
A fundraiser for the P.L.A.Y.S. goes at Northern Tikes April 24th.
Another fundraiser called “Axe The Stigma On Autism” is taking place April 27th at Northern Axperts.
