A call for the provincial government to address the needs of adults with developmental disabilities.

Right now, they receive funding up to the age of 18 and then it stops.

Parents held an information picket outside the Ministry of Community and Social Services on Wednesday.

Parent spokesperson Linda Oullette who has a 19 year old son in this position wants something done.

“I’m 68 already and in 10-15 years I may not be here. I want to know that my son has a place to live and the supports that he needs to be as independent as he can be,” she says.

She says there’s waiting list currently but its more of a ranking system so that the most needy families receive priority on the housing supports regardless of how long they’ve been on the waiting list.
Oullette says the waiting list sits at 11,000.

She says some adults may have to wait for more than 20 years for a place to live.
